Nagarjuna Akkineni is an Indian film actor, producer and producer born on August 29, 1959. He is known for his work mainly in Telugu cinema. He is also known for his work in biographical films. He played the 15th century composer Annamacharya in the 1997 film Annamayya, Yavakri (son of the ascetic Bharadwaja) in the 2002 film Agni Varsha, Major Padmapani Acharya, in the 2003 war movie LOC Kargil, composer of the 17th century, Kancherla Gopanna, in the 2006 Sri Ramadasu movie, Suddala Hanmanthu in the 2011 movie, Rajanna, Shirdi’s Sai Baba in the 2012 movie Shirdi Sai, Chandala, in the 2013 film, Jagadguru Adi Sankara, and Hathiram Bhavaji, and in the movie 2017 Om Namo Venkatesaya.

Nagarjuna Akkineni was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, the late veteran actor Nageswara Rao Akkineni and his wife Annapurna Akkineni. The family then moved to Hyderabad, where he attended the public school of Hyderabad and the Little Flower Junior College. He completed one year of his Bachelor of Engineering degree from the College of Engineering at Guindy (affiliated with Anna University) and earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

In 1984, he married Lakshmi Daggubati, daughter of D. Ramanaidu, renowned filmmaker, and sister of Venkatesh and producer Suresh Babu. Lakshmi and Nagarjuna have a son, actor Naga Chaitanya. However, the couple divorced in 1990. Nagarjuna then married actress Amala Akkineni. From his second marriage, Nagarjuna is the father of actor Akhil Akkineni (born 1994).
