Bappi Lahiri, Bollywood’s “Disco King,” died this morning, leaving an unfillable void in the Indian music industry.

The late composer and singer died in a hospital in Mumbai at the age of 69 from Obstructive Sleep Apnea. “In January, Bappi Lahiri was brought into the hospital for a chest infection and Obstructive Sleep Apnea,” a doctor who was operating on the legendary singer said. He was admitted for 29 days, 18 of which were spent in the intensive care unit. He then made a full recovery, his parameters were stable, and he was undergoing pulmonary rehabilitation.”

“He was discharged on Monday, February 14th.” He stayed at home for about a day and a half before his health began to deteriorate and his family contacted us, so we rushed to his home with an ambulance. He arrived around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday and was in critical condition; we attempted to resuscitate him, but he died around 11.40 – 11.45 p.m. that night,” the doctor added.

Bappi Lahiri, the late music composer and singer, developed an off-screen style with flash gold jewellery, but few are aware that he had a brief career as an actor before venturing into film composition and singing.

In the 1974 film Badhti Ka Naam Dadhi, Bappi Lehri made his film debut alongside his maternal uncle Kishore Kumar. ‘Mamaji,’ he called Kumar.
