Ankita Bhandari, 19, was found dead on Saturday by police close to a bridge over the Ganges in Rishikesh. The body was thrown in a canal after Bhandari was killed, according to preliminary investigations, according to the local police.
She had been employed as a receptionist at a resort run by Pulkit Arya, the son of Vinod Arya, a former minister in the Uttarakhand state government for the country’s dominant Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party.

On September 23, police detained Pulkit Arya and two of his resort workers, Saurabh Bhaskar (35) and Ankit Gupta (19).
Arya is the main suspect because she owns the Vanantra Resort. His father previously served as the chairman of the Uttarakhand Mati Kala Board as well as the national executive of the BJP Other Backward Classes (OBC) Morcha.
Ankit Arya, Pulkit’s brother, was fired by the Uttarakhand government from his position as the state’s deputy chairman of the OBC Commission after the murder was discovered.

After being apprehended, the suspect admitted to the police that she and Pulkit Arya quarreled verbally while being questioned. The other two accused were then told by Pulkit, “The girl is upset, let’s take her to Rishikesh.”
As the accused and the victim approached the Chilla canal, their argument heated up. Pulkit accused her of sharing their conversations with her coworkers after she claimed he encouraged her to develop “special contacts” with resort guests.
The victim then threw the main defendant’s phone into a canal and threatened to tell everyone what was happening in the resort. According to the authorities, the three men allegedly assaulted the woman and forced her into the canal while they were drunk.
