WhatsApp Desktop Version Gets Voice and Video Calling

WhatsApp, the famous global chat app, has formally launched voice and video calls on desktop versions of the app.

These capabilities were formerly only present on handheld devices, but they are now available on notebook and desktop computers as well.

If you want to make WhatsApp calls from your laptop, you’ll need to first add the app to your tablet.

The new one-to-one capability would only work on computers running Windows 10 64-bit version 1903 or later and macOS 10.13 or later.

In a tweet, WhatsApp said,
“We’re excited to announce that private and secure one-to-one voice and video calls are now available on WhatsApp’s desktop app,”

“We’ve seen a huge uptick in people using WhatsApp to call one another, mostly for lengthy talks. With 1.4 billion voice and video calls on New Year’s Eve, we set a new record for the most calls ever received in a single day.
We want messages on WhatsApp to feel as close to in-person as possible, regardless of where you are in the world or the technology you’re using, since so many people are already apart from their loved ones and adapting to different ways of working,” WhatsApp continued.
