Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif penned down the letters to China and Turkey’s presidents – Xi Jinping and Recep Tayyip Erdogan – over Kashmir conflict. Shehbaz, in his letters, thanked Jinping and Erdogan for their support on Kashmir and proving themselves to be the trustworthy friends of Pakistan.
In his letter to the Chinese President, the opposition leader said, “China rightly named its friendships with Pakistan as ‘Iron Brothers’.” “I strongly believed that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will bring the good news in the entire region,” the letter read. In a letter to Erdogan, it was stated that: “Turkey’s support on Kashmir is the evidence of its brotherly relation with Pakistan.”
Mounting tensions between the nuclear-armed Pakistan and India have further flared following the scrapping of the special status of the picturesque Kashmir valley by New Delhi earlier this month.
Kashmiri leaders and citizens fear this step is an attempt by India to change the demography of the Muslim-majority state, where some groups have been fighting against Indian rule for independence, or for unification with neighboring Pakistan.
