Imran Khan is referred to as "Phuddu Wazir e Azam" by Ishaq Dar.

Ishaq Dar is sworn in as the new finance minister of Pakistan.

Following the resignation of his predecessor, Miftah Ismail, Dar, a chartered accountant by trade, was appointed to the position.

A day after being sworn in as a member of Pakistan’s parliament, Ishaq Dar took his oath to serve as that nation’s new finance minister.

During a brief ceremony in the nation’s capital Islamabad on Wednesday, President Arif Ali gave the veteran politician the oath of office.

Dar, 72, has been given this portfolio for the fourth time. Additionally, it happens as Pakistan works to recover from catastrophic floods that killed more than 1,600 people and destroyed homes, crops, roads, and rail systems.

Dar gave a speech outlining his priorities after taking the oath. “We’ll manage inflation. Interest rates will be lowered, he assured reporters.

After his predecessor Miftah Ismail, Pakistan’s fifth finance minister in roughly four years, resigned, Dar, a chartered accountant by trade, was appointed to the position.

As Pakistan battles an economic crisis, Ismail was able to secure a $1.17 billion bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during his six-month tenure as finance minister.

After living in self-imposed exile in London for five years due to accusations of corruption against him, Dar returned to Pakistan on Monday.

“I will do everything in my power to rescue Pakistan from the economic vortex it is sucked into… I think we’re going to go in a good direction,” he told reporters on Monday night.

However, the opposition has criticized the government for appointing Dar.

Imran Khan, a former prime minister and the leader of the main opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, referred to Dar as the “biggest conman of Pakistan” while speaking at an event on Monday in Lahore.

Deals are forged by thieves. Their NROs are given (amnesty against corruption). Because of this, theft continues, the nation stagnates, and money laundering continues, according to Khan, who was speaking to students at a Lahore university.

The following day, during another speech in Peshawar, Khan claimed that a “absconder” had been given control of Pakistan’s treasury.
