Pakistan, UNDP launch project to protect people from glacial lake outburst floods

Pakistan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have launched a $37 million challenge to protect thirty million individuals from harmful glacial lake outburst floods.

The undertaking was launched at a ceremony in Islamabad, which was attended by senior officials from Ministry of Local weather Change, Planning Fee, Economic Affairs Division, other line departments, Governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan and UNDP.

The undertaking will help in scaled-up early warning systems, training on glacial lake outburst flood preparedness and response, and creation of new protective infrastructure in the most weak rural communities in the high-altitude regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
