KARACHI: Fawad Ijaz Khan starred with a half-century as Omar Associates Veterans sealed an emphatic 10-wicket win against Naya Nazimabad Veterans in the Over-60 Super Veterans fixture at the Lawai Cricket Stadium in Naya Nazimabad here on Saturday night.
The off-match, which has been organized by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA), saw Naya Nazimabad Veterans post a healthy 144-1 in the stipulated 20 overs after being put into bat by Nadeem Omar.
Former first-class player Babar Basharat and captain Arif Habib both scored 50-plus while sharing a first-wicket stand of 99.
Arif made 55 off 48 balls (six fours) and Babar made a 43-ball 52 (six boundaries) with both retiring.
Omar Associates reached their target in 19 overs thanks to Fawad’s a magnificent 63 with his unbeaten 60-ball knock including six boundaries. Nadeem put on 44 with Fawad before retiring on 16, while Khawaja Kaleem (25) also retired before man-of-the-match Fawad and Nadeem Yousuf (22) completed the last rites.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi graced the occasion as the chief guest and distributed the prizes.
