COVID-19: All mosques in Singapore to be closed for five days, Friday prayers cancelled
All 70 mosques in Singapore will close for at least five days, starting March 13. This means there will be no Friday prayers in mosques for the first time in the country. The unprecedented move is a result of two confirmed cases of COVID-19 — they were among some 82 Singaporeans who attended a mass religious gathering in Malaysia from Feb 27 to March 1. Mosque activities will also be suspended for two weeks. Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli said the precautions are important so as to break the cycle of possible spread to the community.
